The PsychoEd Clinic, in collaboration with Read Write Think (RWT), is proud to introduce the Psychologically Informed Direct Instruction (PIDI) Therapy Program. This unique program supports children and adolescents who experience learning difficulties, attention challenges, or anxiety related to learning. By combining evidence-based academic teaching with psychological strategies, the program helps students succeed academically while also strengthening emotional wellbeing.
The PIDI program combines the proven effectiveness of Direct Instruction with psychological support strategies. Direct Instruction is a clear, structured method of teaching that minimizes misinterpretation. It offers a wide range of academic programs under one umbrella, breaking learning into small, manageable steps with predictable routines and frequent feedback. This approach reduces frustration and helps students follow along with confidence.
In the PIDI program, therapists go a step further by integrating psychological strategies. This ensures children feel supported not only academically but also emotionally, creating a balanced learning environment where they can thrive.
Clarity & Structure - Predictable routines make learning easier.
Emotional Support - Strategies to reduce anxiety and build confidence.
Personalized Plans - Tailored to each child’s academic and emotional needs.
Read Write Think is a team of Direct Instruction specialists based in Vaughan, Ontario. They provide individualized 1-on-1 DI programs designed for students who do not respond well to traditional methods of teaching. The philosophy behind the term Direct Instruction is simple. If the child hasn’t learned, the teacher hasn’t taught. In many aspects, this is a challenging concept to accept. Combining high-pace, immediate teacher feedback, precise examples and instantaneous correction of mistakes, Direct Instruction is one of the most effective teaching methods today.
Students are prescribed a program after an initial assessment of academic and learning skills. RWT's team regularly re-assesses student progress to ensure that each program remains closely aligned with the learner’s needs.

How long is the program?
The PIDI program includes 12 one-hour therapy sessions, typically scheduled once or twice per week, depending on the child’s needs and family availability.
Where are sessions held?
Intake assessments are preferably done in person at The PsychoEd Clinic. Therapy sessions may be in person or online, depending on therapist availability and family preference.
What ages of children can participate?
The program is designed for school-aged children and adolescents who may have reading difficulties, attention challenges, or anxiety related to learning.
What makes this program different from tutoring?
Unlike tutoring, the PIDI program integrates psychological strategies with structured reading instruction. This means children not only work on academic skills but also develop tools to manage anxiety, attention, and motivation.
What happens if my child needs more support after the 12 sessions?
At the end of the program, families can choose an optional exit assessment. Based on results, the clinical team may recommend continuing sessions, repeating the program, or adding other supports.
Can this program be covered by insurance?
All services are billed as psychological therapy, which is covered by most major insurance providers. TPC provides an estimate for families to confirm with their insurance company before starting.
